Movie Review: Avengers – Doom's Day (2025)
Director: Ryan Coogler
Starring: Benedict Cumberbatch, Elizabeth Olsen, Anthony Mackie, Letitia Wright, Oscar Isaac, and introducing Mads Mikkelsen as Doctor Doom
Plot Summary:
Avengers: Doom’s Day picks up after the events of Secret Wars, where the multiverse is still unstable. Latveria, a mysterious and isolated European nation, begins to rise in global power under the leadership of the enigmatic and brilliant Victor Von Doom.
When Doom seizes a fragment of the multiverse core and begins rewriting reality in his image, the new generation of Avengers — led by Doctor Strange, Captain America (Sam Wilson), and Shuri/Black Panther — must unite to stop a villain unlike any they’ve ever faced. Unlike Thanos, Doom isn’t driven by destruction but by control, intellect, and a twisted sense of order.
What Worked:
1. Doctor Doom Steals the Show:
Mads Mikkelsen's portrayal of Victor Von Doom is mesmerizing — calm, commanding, and terrifying. He’s not just a villain; he’s a tragic, Shakespearean character with genius-level intellect and a deep personal code.
2. High Stakes & Philosophical Conflict:
Unlike the brute-force battle of Infinity War, Doom’s Day is a war of ideologies. Doom believes only he can save reality — even if it means enslaving it. This leads to powerful debates between him and Strange, echoing Civil War-like tension.
3. Visual Spectacle:
The film is visually stunning, blending multiverse distortions with Latverian mysticism and Wakandan tech. The final battle in a warped version of Earth-616’s New York is jaw-dropping.
4. Strong Ensemble Cast:
Every Avenger has a moment. Wanda’s return is both mysterious and redemptive, Moon Knight adds unpredictability, and Sam Wilson fully steps into the leadership role.
What Could Be Better:
The movie tries to juggle too many subplots — including TVA remnants, Kang’s leftover timelines, and Latverian rebellion arcs.
Fans new to the multiverse storyline might feel overwhelmed without deep Marvel knowledge.
Some side characters like Ant-Man and She-Hulk are underused.
Standout Moments:
Doom vs. Doctor Strange in the Mirror Dimension.
A flashback to Doom’s origin in Latveria — haunting and beautifully done.
Wanda and Doom’s face-off, where magic collides with willpower.
The post-credit scene, teasing Galactus approaching Earth.
Verdict:
"Avengers: Doom’s Day" is a thrilling, thought-provoking, and intense Marvel chapter. It trades spectacle for depth, giving us a villain that challenges the heroes not just with power—but with intellect, morality, and fear. Doctor Doom might be Marvel’s finest villain .
Rating: 8.8/10
A bold new direction for the MCU, with unforgettable performances and stunning visuals — slightly bogged down by its ambition, but overall a must-watch.
